Description:
Habitat does not give away houses. We mortgage them at zero interest to eligible families that need a “hand up” and not a “hand out.” Qualified families must show that they have a need for housing, are willing to PARTNER and are able to pay for a mortgage. Typical mortgage and real estate tax costs average $500 monthly and never exceed 30% of their gross monthly income.
In addition to building new homes, Habitat for Humanity in Walworth County also makes affordable simple, exterior repairs for homeowners in the county. The program is aimed at providing painting, landscaping, and minor repair services to low-income homeowners in need.
Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness has a goal to serve low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. The work is done by volunteers who use donated materials whenever possible. The homeowner must meet certain qualifications for selection for ABWK including demonstrated need, willingness to partner and ability to re-pay a no interest loan. Payments made by the partner family are placed in a revolving fund to help ABWK serve others in need.
