Description:

AGS is continuing work under a cooperative agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to update and expand programs targeting older driver safety. The current program is focused on enhancing a healthcare professional’s ability to assess and counsel older drivers.

As part of this AGS-NHTSA collaboration, an updated guide is putting healthcare professionals on the road to success for assessing and counseling older drivers, with a goal of optimizing the safety of those can still drive, and providing transportation planning for those who retire from driving. With older adults accounting for 18 percent of annual traffic fatalities, the Clinician’s Guide to Assessing and Counseling Older Drivers (4th Edition) translates research findings and public health initiatives into practical, person-centered advice for helping older drivers safely navigate the open road.
