What is BARD?! Talking Book and Braille and Audio reading Download (BARD)
BARD stands for Braille and Audio Reading Download. It is an internet-based service from the NLS that enables the user to download books to their personal devices.
Did you know that your talking book library offers talking books and magazines available for immediate download to your iOS or Android device? If you did not, you are not alone! When asked if they used BARD, many WTBBL patrons responded with their own question: What is BARD?
NLS is launching a Braille-on-Demand pilot project on Monday, June 20, 2022. This project will allow active patrons to request and receive one hard-copy braille title per month, in which patrons can retain for their personal use. Braille titles will be limited to books that are currently available on BARD, the NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download service. At this time, requests are limited to one book per patron per month. Only complete titles will be distributed. Requests for partial titles (for example, volume one of a three-volume book) will result in receiving the entire book. Braille titles will be limited to books that are currently available on BARD.
