Description:

ARISE is a collaboration of seven parishes to provide quality religious instruction for their parish children, teens and adults who are challenged with disabilities.
ARISE serves students ages 6+ who have varying degrees of learning, cognitive, emotional disabilities, and physical disabilities, including but not limited to Down Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, Autism Spectrum, ADHD, Hearing, and Visual Impairments.

On the first Monday of each month from October 5, 2020-March 2, 2021, there will be a Gathering Prayer Service at St. Gregory the Great Parish from 6:45-7:15 pm. Students and their family members are invited to be part of the prayer service and sit together in one pew. Social distancing and masks are required. Deacon Jim Banach will lead the services and students will have opportunities to read the Opening Prayer and Gospel from the pulpit, do sign language to the songs “Open My Eyes” and “Prayer for Peace”, and offer their Prayer Petitions. Attending the Prayer Service is an option and not required.

Each student is assigned to a catechist to work on his/her Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, or Post Confirmation. The catechist adapts the teaching materials to meet the individual learning needs of the student. In an attempt to provide a safe social distance for our learners, we have 30 minutes of Virtual Lessons on three Mondays each month from October 2020-March 2021. The students work with a catechist and one parent must be present during each lesson. The times are from 6:30-7:00 pm, 6:45-7:15, or 7:00-7:30 pm, whichever works best for the students and parents. There are a total of 12 lessons with no lessons from January-March. There is an option of Planned Lessons sent home for the parents to work with their child(ren) on their own.

There is no charge for the virtual or planned lessons but will accept donations payable to:

ARISE is looking for interested volunteer catechists to work one-on-one with students for October 2021-May 2022 Session. Training and materials are provided. Volunteers must be certified through the Safeguarding All of God’s Family program. Contact the ARISE Coordinators on how you can be certified in this 1-2 hour class.
