Description:

Rest and rehabilitation facility for veterans who are ill, injured or disabled.

If you are a veteran who is ill, injured or disabled and could use friendly, expert care, good food, fresh air and a peaceful rest, investigate staying at Camp American Legion. Camp American Legion opens Memorial Day and remains open until the Friday after Labor Day. Veterans are eligible for a maximum of a 7-day stay based on availability of cabins and beds.

There are 19 well-maintained modern cabins, a main lodge, therapy building, chapel, pontoon boats, motorboats, and acres of well-manicured grounds. Originally the Camp provided fishing, swimming and hiking. Today, in addition to those sports, the Camp offers boating, shuffleboard, horseshoes, plus leisure time activities such as card playing, cribbage, bingo, pool, a craft shop, walking nature trails on the grounds, and an extensive library. Fishing licenses are not required for veterans staying at the camp and boats are furnished.

Upstairs in the Main Lodge is the Women's Quarters, with a lounge area, a screened in porch, five separate bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Female veterans are welcome to stay in the Women's Quarters, or in a cabin.

Applications will be accepted from March 1 to August 1. Application forms may be obtained from any American Legion Post, from the American Legion Department Headquarters, or from Camp American Legion.

The facilities are open to all honorably discharged ailing Wisconsin veterans regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or handicap. You must be a resident of Wisconsin the time of admitting an application. Assistance in filling out the applications may be provided by the Post or County Veterans Service Officers. Applications are mailed directly to the camp. The camp approves the application and the veteran is then notified and given a date on which to report to Camp.
