Description:
The Wisconsin Department of Revenue provides assistance to elderly and disabled individuals completing the Wisconsin Homestead Tax Credit form Schedule H. In addition, VITA and AARP/TCE Tax-Aide Program sites assist with preparing Homestead Tax Credit forms.
Tax credit is given for property taxes or rent paid whether or not a Wisconsin Income Tax form has been filed. Must have been a resident of Wisconsin for the full year (January - December of previous year); be 18 years of age or older on Dec 31; paid property taxes or have been a renter, and have a total household income of less than $24,680 for 2020; the applicant cannot be claimed as a dependent on anyone else's federal income tax return for 2014. However, this limitation DOES NOT APPLY IF YOU WERE 62 YEARS OF AGE OR OVER ON DECEMBER 31, 2020. See the Homestead Tax Credit application form for additional qualifying criteria.

Wisconsin residents can have their taxes prepared for free at any Internal Revenue Service sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site or at any AARP sponsored Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) site. VITA income tax assistance is available for:
Low to moderate income individuals
Individuals with disabilities
Non-English speaking individuals
Military personnel
Senior individuals
Individuals who qualify for the homestead credit or the earned income tax credit
